Higher Education in Thailand: Applying to an International Programme

Thailand's international university programmes — taught fully or mostly in English — increasingly attract foreign students, but requirements, timelines and cost are set by each faculty individually rather than by a single national standard.

What admission usually asks for

• Passport and a completed secondary-school qualification or equivalent
• Academic transcript, plus English test scores where the programme requires them
• Standardised test results only where the specific programme asks for them — SAT, ACT, IB or A-Level
• Recommendation letters, a statement of purpose or portfolio, if the programme requires one

Two representative examples

Mahidol University International College (MUIC) lists 21 undergraduate programmes; a four-year non-resident degree runs roughly ฿1.21–1.28 million depending on the programme. Chulalongkorn's BBA International currently publishes a total of about ฿1.03 million for Years 1–4 for students admitted from 2026, alongside a separate scholarship scheme worth checking before budgeting.

The student visa

University study falls under the Non-Immigrant "ED" category. Documentation typically includes a passport, photograph and proof of enrolment, with the university providing the confirmation the visa process needs — admission itself doesn't automatically produce a visa. Since 1 January 2025, applicants outside Thailand can apply through the Thai e-Visa system; those already in the country should check the correct procedure for changing status.
